It's winter here in Orange County and although we might not have piles of snow outside
our doors, there is not shortage of winter fun at the Discovery Cube Orange County.
Debuting this year for the first time is Winter Wonderfest and it has real snow!!!
Real snow in sunny southern California? Yes! And my kids were thrilled for the
opportunity to drive 10 minutes to the Discovery Cube, instead of 12 hours to
Grandma's house in Utah, to play in the cold stuff this winter.
December 19th - January 3rd
You can go tubing down the 70 foot slope!
There were two snow sledding hills - one for the big kids and one for even your little
kids. All of my kids loved the snow sledding. See below for a video of Grace enjoying
herself.She went sledding three or four times and was still asking for more!
I think all three of the kids loved the snow play area best of all.
As a kid I grew up in Las Vegas, so it was such a treat to spend Christmas in Idaho
at my Grandparents' house and enjoy the snow. My kids also love playing in the snow
at grandma and grandpa's house, but they don't love the 12 hour drive.
So being able to build a snowman and enjoy the fluffy stuff after a 10 minute drive
was amazing!
Plus, it gave us an excuse to bust out our cute snow gear and look adorable for the
camera. I was worried that Grace wouldn't like the snow because it was cold and
she's never really been exposed to snow, but she loved it! Even if her mittens were a
tad too big!
There are lots of tools for working in the snow, including some adorable pieces to
make sure your snowman is put together properly.
I think JT made four or five snowmen, because he liked deconstructing them just
as much as he building them.
While you're there for Winter Wonderfest, don't forget to take advantage of your
museum admission to see the amazing 10th Annual Science of Gingerbread displays.
I keep saying that one year we'll enter a gingerbread creation and then I go
and see how amazing the entries are and I think - I don't know if I can do that!
I especially loved the Peanuts scene and Star Wars Death Star entries.
They were so cool!
November 27th - January 3rd
And be sure to build your car and race it in the 2015 Gingerbread Derby.
You're provided with all the pieces to make a delicious car to race against your friends.
Since JT is a Cub Scout and participates in the Pinewood Derby each year,
he really loves this part of The Science of Gingerbread exhibit.
And finally, if you're looking for an alternative to a late night
on New Year's Eve for the kids, then you need to head to Discovery Cube Orange County
for Noon Year's Eve! This year's superhero themed Noon Year's Eve party will help
you ring the 2016 with hats, streamers, balloon drop and a ginger ale toast!
Be sure to come dressed as your favorite superhero!

Do you have New Year's Eve plans?
We love New Year's Eve and I am one of those crazy parents that let's my kids last as long as they last and enjoy the night doing fun things as a family. We play games, eat yummy food and enjoy hanging out with one another. However, the night usually ends up looking a lot like this at about 11:30ish . . .
This year we'll be ringing in the New Year with Knott's Berry Farm! The kids love Knott's Berry Farm on regular days, so I know they will love celebrating the New Year with Snoopy and the Gang.
There are so many activities happening during the Knott's New Year's Eve festivities and they are all included in your park admission! The party starts at 10:00 am on New Year's Eve and lasts until 1:00 am. There will be live entertainment all day long, extended hours, and special fireworks. The Midnight Party on the Midway will include music, stilt walkers, party hats, and noisemakers for everyone! I know my kids will love that for sure!
The live entertainment includes:
Krazy Kirk & The Hillbillies! From the deep country hills of
Anaheim, these boys will have toes tappin’ hands clappin’ and guts
bustin’ during the best darn musical comedy show ever performed on the
Wilderness Dance Hall stage.
Jumpin’ Joz Band and Memories Swing Dancers invite
guests to jump and jive to the sounds of Jumpin’ Joz. Join them on the
dance floor and boogie into the New Year. Guests have the opportunity to
learn a few moves from expert swing dancers.
THE REFLEXX is the best 80’s new wave cover band around
who cover songs from bands such as: Depeche Mode, Simple Minds, Tears
for Fears, New Order, A-Ha, The Cure, Duran Duran, Flock of Seagulls,
Devo, and more.
Family friendly comedian, Taylor Hughes, brings his hilarious comedy, magic and fun audience interaction to Boardwalk Ballroom
It’s Christmas, Snoopy will present encore performances into the
evening. Join Snoopy and his pals as they skate their way through the
joys of the Holiday season. This is a must see! It is our favorite!
Midnight Fireworks Spectacular ring in the New Year
with a bang. Look to the western skies for an aerial fireworks display
that will amaze. And don’t miss the spectacular countdown to midnight on
the Sky Cabin tower.
All the fun and New Year's Eve festivities will definitely leave you hungry! So grab a delicious meal from the New Year’s Eve buffet in Spurs
Restaurant will be served from 4pm-9pm; prices are $34.99+tax for adults
