Summer Yum: S'mores Cereal Marshmallow Treats

It's summer and when summer hits I crave all things s'mores. There is just
something yummy about the graham-marshmallow-chocolate combination. So,
when we were doing our weekly grocery shopping trip and I saw this new
Honey Maid S'mores Cereal I knew that it would make a great no-bake treat that
the whole family would love. So, I grabbed a couple of boxes, a bag of
marshmallows, mini chocolate chips, and mini chocolate bars to make my
creation come to life.

If you can make the infamous rice krispie treats, then you can make these. They
whip up in about 10 minutes total and after they've cooled and set you - you're
good to go. Well, unless you're my husband and you try to eat it out of the pot
while it's all ooey and gooey before I get a chance to put it into the pan.

{S'mores Cereal Marshmallow Treats}

7-8 cups Honey Maid S'mores Cereal
1 (10oz) bag marshmallows
1/4 cup butter
1/4 tsp sea salt
1/2 cup frozen mini chocolate chips
mini chocolate bars broken into individual pieces
1/2 cup melted chocolate chips (optional)

{DIRECTIONS}

1. Coat your 9x13 pan with butter or cooking spray. I always forget to to this first,
but it really does make the whole process go so much smoother if you !

2. In a large pot, melt your 1/4 cup of butter on medium-low heat. Once the butter
has melted completely - remove from heat!

3. Dump in your 10oz bag of marshmallows and stir and stir and stir until all the
little marshmallows are melted and well combined with the butter.

4. Dump in the 1/4 tsp of sea salt. It really does give your treats a great flavor!

5. Next up, add in your Honey Maid S'mores Cereal and stir until every inch is
covered in marshmallow.

6. If you want to up your chocolate game, dump in a 1/2 cup of  FROZEN mini
chocolate chips. When they are frozen, you have a better chance of them not
melting completely.

7. Spread into your already buttered 9x13 pan. See! You did it at the beginning,
so you're not scrambling like me to get it done before the marshmallow treats
set up.

8. Totally optional, but if you want more chocolate and you want them to be
pretty, nestle the mini chocolate candy bar pieces into the nooks and drizzle
some melted chocolate on top.

See! I told you they were easy! My non-s'mores loving middle child loves these
because they are full of chocolate, lighter on the marshmallow chunks, and super
yummy. I love that the cereal already includes the classic s'mores ingredients.
If you're not crazy for chocolate like we are, you can skip all extra add-ins and
just go for the s'mores cereal because it has little chocolate cereal pieces in it too.

Cut up into squares or eat right out of the pan! They are delicious and the perfect
way to get your s'mores fix when there isn't a campfire handy!

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE S'MORES TREAT?!?!!?

TOO Cute Tuesday: Linky Par-Tay! #343

I really do love summer nights! This week was nice and easy with lots
of swimming and running on the grass. We even got around to dying
Isabella's hair with Kool-aid again this summer. Nothing says summer
like flaming orange hair!

Family Movie Night at the Iconic Lido Theater

Tucked away in Newport Beach just off of Newport Blvd  - just after you've
crossed over PCH to get to Balboa island is the iconic Lido Theater. This
theater is truly an Orange County gem that harkens back to the Golden Age of
Hollywood. This beautiful single screen theater showcases the splendor of how
movies were made to be enjoyed.

We've driven right past the Lido Theater so many times over the years and didn't
even know this beautiful landmark was there. I immediately fell in love with its
gorgeous facade and the vintage neon lighting - it's my favorite! It has been
meticulously restored and features a state-of-the-art projection and sound system.

The lobby is beautiful and features a full service refreshment counter and elegant
chandeliers. The popcorn machine was my favorite! Just look at that gorgeous
vintage neon signage - so classic! It transported me back to in time to when the
theater first opened in 1938 with the Bette Davis movie "Jezebel".

We got the kids pack and it was the perfect sized treat to enjoy during our movie.
There are a lot of candy and other refreshment choices because a cold Diet Coke
and warm popcorn just scream - MOVIE TIME!

The interior of the theater is gorgeous! There is a magnificent waterfall red velvet
curtain on the stage and stunning ocean scene murals along the auditorium
walls. The Lido Theater also has a balcony!!! You just don't find those in modern
theaters. We watched Wonder Woman and the picture and sound were just what
you'd expect in a modern movie going experience. However, the ambiance of the
Lido just makes your experience that much more enjoyable.

The kids love the Lido Theater and I was glad that we arrived just a little
bit early so that they could explore the theater before the show started.
My daughter was in love with the ladies room and it's lovely sitting parlor.
She came running out and was all - "Mom! You have to see the bathroom!"
Bette Davis is responsible for the parlor and the parlor stools are period pieces
that add such a fun touch to the entire setting.

If you haven't had an evening of family fun or a date night at the Lido Theater -
you must! There are numerous restaurants at the Via Lido Plaza that are perfect
dining options and perfectly round out your evening.

It is home to the closing night movie and Gala for the Newport Beach Film
Festival and is also available to rent for private events. I would love to have
my birthday party there and watch a great movie with my friends!

You can find out what movie is showing at the Lido Theater by visiting its
website. These next two weeks are the perfect time for some family time because
this week Cars 3 (G) is showing and then Despicable Me 3 (PG) moves in on
June 29th.

Have you been to this iconic theater? What is your favorite feature?

Ghost Town Alive!: A Day in the Life As a Calico Citizen

It's been a year since the MAYFIELD GANG escaped the custody
of Sheriff Wheeler and the word on the streets of Calico is that they've been
spotted back in town and the townsfolk of Calico need help capturing these
notorious bandits. Ghost Town Alive! is back at Knott's Berry Farm and
you'll be transported back in time and immersed in the day in the life of a
Calico citizen.

FIRST things first, you'll want to be sworn in as a citizen of Calico.
You'll have to write your name in the ledger and promise to be a loyal
Calico citizen. Don't worry, if Judge Roy Bean isn't in, one of the deputy
judges will swear you in and you'll be all set to jump into the ongoing
story and fun of Calico and Ghost Town Alive!

After she was made an official citizen, we headed over to the
CALICO GAZETTE to get our very own copy of the day's paper to see
what would be happening at the Founder's Day celebration. She was in luck
because the editor of the Calico Gazette - Bixby Knolls - was looking for a few
more reporters to be his eyes and ears in town to get the latest scoop on all the
action. She got her press badge and set off to find out when the Mayor would
be giving his big Founder's Day speech.

Luckily, they tracked THE MAYOR down without much trouble. He was
glad to be interviewed by such esteemed members of the press
and he gave them the latest scoop on his FOUNDER'S DAY speech and
told them to keep their eyes and ears peeled for any rumblings that
the Mayfields were back in town.

We heard that we could get the best gossip at the BARBER SHOP
so we stopped in to meet the barber - Doc. He offered to get us
properly outfitted with an official Calico mustache so we'd fit right in. He hinted
that there might be some mysterious goings on at Hop Wing's laundry because
he's been out of town, but others have reported that they've heard singing going
on late at night.

Doc sent us over to the SCHOOLHOUSE to visit his wife -
Miss Abby - and deliver his anniversary surprise. Grace loved the desks and
the personal chalkboards. The girls loved visiting with the school teachers and
finding out what it was like to be a student long, long ago.

In performing her duties as a member of the press Isabella investigated
a few of the town's mysteries and legends. For instance, you must visit the
BOOT HILL UNDERTAKER and peek in the window
to look into reports of mysterious goings on. Or did you know that Calico had a
witch that still works her magic on her former residence? You need to find
it and report back to Bixby Knolls what you discover.

Now, since she was a member of the Calico Gazette press she got an
insiders look into the JAIL CELL that held the infamous
Mayfield Gang. She couldn't convince her little sister to be a jail inspector
with her. Luckily, the Deputy didn't keep her in there too long.

Sheriff Wheeler was in the office and was looking for a few new deputies, so
Isabella decided to get deputized and help the Sheriff keep a look out for the
Mayfields. There are clues all over Calico that lead one to believe that the gang
has something big planned involving the town of Calico.

There is so much to discover and experience during Ghost Town Alive!
Be sure you stop by the LIVERY STABLE and meet all the
beautiful horses. They live across the street, but pop in to the stable to visit and
all the wonderful citizens of Calico.

Oh, and don't forget about the YUMMY FOOD located in Calico.
We had to share the delicious Cowboy Fries with my little sister who had
never had them before. They are topped with lots of deliciousness - like carne
asada, pico de gallo, guacamole, and cheese. So yummy!!

Knott's Cowboy Fries

We also tried the COOKIEWICH for the first time and it was a big hit!
We chose the Boysenberry Soft Serve to go inside of ours and there was
plenty to go around for all five of us. It gets messy toward the end, so be sure to
grab plenty of napkins. Or you can opt for the waffle cone - that's also a favorite!
Either way, you have to get the Boysenberry ice cream - none of this vanilla
nonsense.

Along with the return of Ghost Town Alive! this summer is the debut of
SNOOPY'S MAGNIFICENT MAGICAL REVUE at the Charles M. Schulz Theater. Snoopy, the whole Peanuts Gang
and Magician Greg Wilson help Snoopy realize his dream to become a real
life magician. You might even find yourself part of the act! The show runs
now through August 20th (no shows on Wednesdays).

This summer head to Knott's Berry Farm and join in all the fun
that GHOST TOWN ALIVE! has to offer. Be
sure to grab your mustache and copy of the Calico Gazette so you can help
Sheriff Wheeler protect the citizens of Calico from the Mayfield Gang!
You'll need to catch all the fun before it skips down on September 4th, 2017.

It's been exciting over here that last week. We've finished school, had
three different sets of company come and visit, two water parks, one theme
park, three pool days, two beach days, and two urgent care visits. Phew!
I won't mind if this upcoming week isn't quite as exciting!

TOO Cute Tuesday: Linky Par-Tay! #341

Woohoo! School is out! And although I'm SUPER HAPPY to have the
freedom that our summer schedule offers, I'll miss afternoon lunch dates
with this cute face for the next 6-8 weeks. She's a funny little person that
knows exactly what she wants and how to get it.
