Orange You Glad It's Summer Teacher Gift + Printable

If you hadn't heard, I have a certain daughter that loves orange. She is crazy for it! She wants her hair orange, she wants her clothes orange, she loves orange food best and everyday involves orange in one form or the other. So, when it was time to do end of the year teacher gifts I knew that orange would need to be involved in some way. Since we had already done the Orange You Glad I'm Eight when she got baptized almost 2 years ago, I thought that Orange You Glad it's Summer would be the perfect theme for a teacher gift.



So I gathered up as many orange things as I could find and filled up a cute orange sand bucket that I found in the Dollar Spot at Target (or whatever they're calling it now) and loaded it up.

The orange things I included:
Orange Wooden Earrings (I sprayed painted a wooden pair I bought.)
Orange bubble wand
Orange sunscreen
Orange water gun
Orange soda
Orange gum
Orange Tic Tacs
Orange box of candy (Reese's Pieces)
Orange nail polish
Orange magazine
An ORANGE!

I lucked out in finding the HGTV magazine with an orange armoire on the front that went perfectly with the orange theme. I bought cute wooden leaf earrings and sprayed painted them orange. They turned out so cute!! I also included a gift card and made an orange gift card holder for it with a scrap of scrapbook paper and some orange washi tape.

It all fit in the bucket perfectly and then I added a cute little tag that I made by attaching it to the bucket with orange baker's twine. My daughter was thrilled with how it all came together. It was so much fun to make and I love that you can put anything in it you think that your teacher would love that is ORANGE!

{My Dad} Book: Father's Day Gift and Printable

When I was teaching 2nd grade one of my favorite things to make with the kids

was their Father's Day gifts. The kids were always so excited to make gifts

for their dads and I wanted to make something special that the dads would love

and not hang in the closet to be forgotten until it was time for Goodwill donations.

My friend Paula had the idea for an adorable book that let the kids practice

their writing skills and also tell their dads how much they love them.

I've updated that idea with some cute fonts and frames and have created

a great printable book that you can make with your kids.

It's a great project for kids of any age because those that are too young to

write can dictate to you and draw their pictures and your older kids can

show off their writing and artistic talent.

There are 6 double pages in the book - for a total of 12 pages.

They have writing prompts like "My dad looks handsome when he" or

"My dad makes the best" and lets the kids finish the sentence with their answers.

You will fold all the pages with blank/wrong sides together, so that you see the writing

prompts on both sides of the page.

It is easiest to have the kids write and illustrate their pages before you put the book together.

So, grab your colored pencils and a free afternoon when dad isn't around

and have the kids work on their pages.

Remember, print them out and have the kids write and illustrate BEFORE you

assemble the book for dad.

I printed the inside pages on regular copy paper, but I printed the cover on heavyweight

cardstock that I bought at Wal-Mart. 

I also have the kids illustrate the cover of the Father's Day book before I put it together.

It's easier to maneuver and if someone makes a page they aren't happy with

(which never happens with my Type A perfectionist kids),

you can easily toss it and replace it and not have to take the whole book apart. 

When your child has finished all of their pages, it's time to put it together.

You will insert all the pages with the open side into the inside spine of the cover.

If you've assembled it correctly, yours should look like mine below.

The open/flappy part of the pages will be on the inside, and the folded edge

of the pages will be on the outside of the book.

It's an easy DIY project that you can finish in 2-3 free afternoons.

My super detail orientated little artist could spend a day on each page trying

to perfect the illustrations. So, if this is the case at your house too, then you might

want to allow for a week to get it finished without stressing anyone out.

When you're all done and the book is finished and assembled,

staple 2-3 times down the spine of the book, being careful not to staple too

far in so that it makes the pages hard to turn or covers up your child's great work.

Teacher Appreciation: Quench My Thirst for Knowledge Treat and Printable

This Teacher Appreciation gift is quick and no fuss - exactly what I needed

after the fabric flower pencil bouquet and GIANT candygram.

The day's theme was "favorite treat" and JT's teacher loves Reese's Peanut Butter Cups,

but I didn't want her to end up with 10 lbs of Reese's (reminds me of 50 First Dates!) ,

so we went with something a little lighter.

I grabbed a darling straw tumbler from Walmart, 

filled it with water flavoring packets and two of our favorite treats - Hi-Chew and Mentos.

They were the perfect size for the tumbler.

Then I jazzed it up with some baker's twine - another staple - 

and made a cute printable tag to attach.

Teacher Appreciation: GIANT Teacher Candy-Gram

 Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week in our school district,

and each day the room mom had a theme for the day.

I really like this idea. The PTA at our school last year did the same

thing and I liked it on a school wide basis better because

then if you have children in multiple grade levels you don't have to remember

3-4 different themes each day.

One of our themes was "a note or a card". At first I thought I'd just do a giant card,

but then after thinking about it I thought - a teacher appreciation candy-gram would be awesome!

It was so much fun to make and put together and hunt down specific candies.

Some of the candy bars I didn't find were a 5th Avenue bar, small serving Sprees and Whoppers.

But the day after we gave this to JT's teacher I stopped at the 99 cent Only Store

and found all three of them. So, next year I will for sure just hit up the dollar store

first to find all the candy first.

I bought the poster board at Walmart and used a Sharpie to write the message.

I hot glued the the candy to the poster and it worked really well.

I love my hot glue gun!
