DIY LEGO Halloween Earrings Tutorial

We're headed to LEGOLAND Brick-or-Treat this weekend and I wanted something fun and festive to wear. I'm not really a t-shirt person, so I decided to make some fun earrings that would be spooky and totally LEGO themed. So, I rummaged through our giant bucket of LEGO pieces and grabbed all the bricks that seemed in anyway related to Halloween. Shhh . . . don't tell the kids!

I found a lot of fun pieces - including the eyes from the Mixels and some spiders. Then I gathered up my jewelry findings and got to work putting together my LEGO Halloween earrings.

If you're brave, you can use super glue (aka THE KRAGLE) to keep your pieces permanently stuck together. However, I liked the idea of being able to change the earrings up every now and then, so I decided against using The Kragle and just put them together. LEGOs lock tight, so I'm not worried about the pieces falling off.

Now, to turn the LEGO plates into earrings and attach the findings, you're going to need to put a little hole in the top LEGO for the jump ring to connect through. There are various ways to put a hole in a LEGO. The best way is to use a drill with a tiny drill bit and zip - you're through the LEGO with no problem. If you don't have a household drill (or yours isn't charged like mine . . .) you can heat up a needle with a flame and punch it straight through. The hole might be too small, so move it around a little bit to get the hole big enough for the jump ring to go through.

Now you're done! Put your jump ring through the hole you've created, attach your earring finding, close up the jump ring with pliers and you are good to go! You have your totally original LEGO Halloween earrings and are ready to rock it at Brick-or-Treat or anywhere else you need a great Halloween accessory to complete your outfit.

You might have to make two pairs if your daughter also things they are super cool. Good thing we have lots of LEGOs we can use to make lots of different LEGO Halloween earrings. If you make some Halloween earrings I would love to see them.

Have you ever made jewelry with LEGOs? What did you make?

The LEGOLAND chefs have put a fun ninja twist on Asian street food and  created Banh Mi Vietnamese sandwiches on fresh baked baguettes or steamed Bao Buns. You have your choice of crispy pork belly, lemongrass chicken, or baked sweet chili tofu. I love the pork belly the best!

Be sure to check out the 22 LEGO models within NINJAGO World - they are amazing! My kids always want to take their pictures with all the ninjas. There are guardian dragons, swords of the four elements, and a 500 pound model of Nya and Zane that is created out of 73,600 pieces and took four model builders 550 hours to build! There is also the NINJAGO Monastery that stands more than 9 feet tall and is made of more the 850,000 LEGO bricks. The monastery sits in the center of NINJAGO World for everyone to enjoy.

My favorite is the NINJAGO dragon! He has a wing span of more than 7 feet and is made of more than 48,000 LEGO bricks! It took Master Builders more than 200 hours to construct! I love the bright colors and the impressive wing span as he perches upon the giant rock.

REMEMBER!
The LEGO NINJAGO Movie opens in theaters this Friday, September 22nd and LEGO NINJAGO Days are September 23rd and 24th. So be sure to visit LEGOLAND California this weekend and increase your prowess as a ninja and let me know which you like better - the Banh Mi sandwich or the Bao Buns!

DIY LEGO Lightsaber Earrings

We love Star Wars and it's been so fun to watch all the movies with
the kids and see the excitement as they experience Jedis, Siths and The Force
for the first time. Grace is especially in love with Darth Vader.
I'm not sure if I should be worried about her love of the Dark Side,
but it sure is fun when she asks to watch "Doo-Doo"
(you know because Darth Vader's theme song
goes "doo-doo-doo-doodoo-doo-doodoo-doo").

So, given our love of Star Wars, when May the Fourth (aka Star Wars Day)
came around this year, we all got into the spirit.
I think that JT owns just about every Star Wars t-shirt you can find at Walmart or Target,
so he just picked his current favorite and was ready to go.
Isabella decided to pair her "May the Force Be With You" shirt with
her favorite LuLaRoe leggings and then she wanted to have Rey's hair style.
Thank goodness for YouTube tutorials!
I got all fancy with Grace and made her a Darth Vader t-shirt of her very own
and paired it with a paper bag skirt that I made out of a gold Star Wars
logo print fabric that I had been saving for just the right occasion.

I didn't want to be left out of the festivities, so I decided
to make myself some LEGO lightsaber earrings. Since we also love LEGOS,
I knew we would have all the supplies to make these super cool
accessories. So, I gathered them all up and got to work.

In addition to raiding your kids' LEGO stash for the lightsabers,
you will need:
  • Jewelry Glue
  • Earring Findings
  • Jump Hoops
  • Jewelry Pliers

STEP ONE
Apply a tiny bit of glue to your lightsaber blade and insert it into
one end of the hilt. You don't have to do this, as the blades fit
pretty snuggly into the hilts, but I wanted to make sure they
would stay put.

STEP TWO
Take one jump ring and using your jewelry pliers, squeeze it gently
into a slender oval that will fit into the other end of the hilt.
Apply some glue into the hilt opening and insert and oval shaped
jump ring into the hilt hole. Hold for a moment and then repeat the
process with the other lightsaber. I followed the directions and let
the glue cure 24 hours before doing the next step.

STEP THREE
Once your glue has cured following the directions on the package,
then you can attach your second jump ring your lightsaber and then attach
your earring findings.

BAM! You're done and now you have super cool LEGO lightsaber
earrings to help you look cool on the next Star Wars Day!
If your kids are not keen on letting you raid their LEGO stash,
then you can find great bulk sets of different colors of lightsabers on
Ebay. I borrowed from my kids while they were at school and then
I ordered some on Ebay to replace them!

I'm not sure how Darth Vader feels about them, but the rest of my
LEGO Star Wars minifigures think that they are pretty cool.
I can't wait for my bulk lot of LEGO lightsabers to get here from Ebay
so that I can replace the ones I "borrowed" and then make some
more earrings in every color.

They were relatively light and the perfect size for an earring.
I think the minifigure earrings look awesome, but I have a feeling that
they would be heavier than I like my earrings to be. So, these lightsaber
earrings were perfect for me. Isabella would like me to make her some
BB8 earrings, so I need to get working on that.

Until then, May the Fourth Be With You!
Do you have someone in your life that would love these?
