DIY LEGO Lightsaber Earrings

We love Star Wars and it's been so fun to watch all the movies with
the kids and see the excitement as they experience Jedis, Siths and The Force
for the first time. Grace is especially in love with Darth Vader.
I'm not sure if I should be worried about her love of the Dark Side,
but it sure is fun when she asks to watch "Doo-Doo"
(you know because Darth Vader's theme song
goes "doo-doo-doo-doodoo-doo-doodoo-doo").

So, given our love of Star Wars, when May the Fourth (aka Star Wars Day)
came around this year, we all got into the spirit.
I think that JT owns just about every Star Wars t-shirt you can find at Walmart or Target,
so he just picked his current favorite and was ready to go.
Isabella decided to pair her "May the Force Be With You" shirt with
her favorite LuLaRoe leggings and then she wanted to have Rey's hair style.
Thank goodness for YouTube tutorials!
I got all fancy with Grace and made her a Darth Vader t-shirt of her very own
and paired it with a paper bag skirt that I made out of a gold Star Wars
logo print fabric that I had been saving for just the right occasion.

I didn't want to be left out of the festivities, so I decided
to make myself some LEGO lightsaber earrings. Since we also love LEGOS,
I knew we would have all the supplies to make these super cool
accessories. So, I gathered them all up and got to work.

In addition to raiding your kids' LEGO stash for the lightsabers,
you will need:
  • Jewelry Glue
  • Earring Findings
  • Jump Hoops
  • Jewelry Pliers

STEP ONE
Apply a tiny bit of glue to your lightsaber blade and insert it into
one end of the hilt. You don't have to do this, as the blades fit
pretty snuggly into the hilts, but I wanted to make sure they
would stay put.

STEP TWO
Take one jump ring and using your jewelry pliers, squeeze it gently
into a slender oval that will fit into the other end of the hilt.
Apply some glue into the hilt opening and insert and oval shaped
jump ring into the hilt hole. Hold for a moment and then repeat the
process with the other lightsaber. I followed the directions and let
the glue cure 24 hours before doing the next step.

STEP THREE
Once your glue has cured following the directions on the package,
then you can attach your second jump ring your lightsaber and then attach
your earring findings.

BAM! You're done and now you have super cool LEGO lightsaber
earrings to help you look cool on the next Star Wars Day!
If your kids are not keen on letting you raid their LEGO stash,
then you can find great bulk sets of different colors of lightsabers on
Ebay. I borrowed from my kids while they were at school and then
I ordered some on Ebay to replace them!

I'm not sure how Darth Vader feels about them, but the rest of my
LEGO Star Wars minifigures think that they are pretty cool.
I can't wait for my bulk lot of LEGO lightsabers to get here from Ebay
so that I can replace the ones I "borrowed" and then make some
more earrings in every color.

They were relatively light and the perfect size for an earring.
I think the minifigure earrings look awesome, but I have a feeling that
they would be heavier than I like my earrings to be. So, these lightsaber
earrings were perfect for me. Isabella would like me to make her some
BB8 earrings, so I need to get working on that.

Until then, May the Fourth Be With You!
Do you have someone in your life that would love these?
